About Brisbane City (布里斯本介紹)

The town of Brisbane was built in a bend of the river for which it was named – and it’s the Brisbane River that still defines this city’s lifestyle and appeal.

Once derided as a “big country town”, Brisbane city is now home to a vibrant culture and an enviable lifestyle that showcases this city’s sunny climate and cheerful attitude.

Living in the centre of the city is a relatively new phenomenon, with Brisbanites historically choosing to live in the more well-established suburbs that circle the city. Those who live in the CBD today are a younger, multicultural crowd, with residents hailing from Korea, China, Taiwan, the UK and New Zealand.

Live music to suit most tastes can be found every night within walking distance of the city centre. Gourmands will be happy in the city too – everything from a quick sushi meal to a 7-course degustation is available within a few short blocks.

On the other side of the river, Brisbane’s Southbank is home to restaurants, hotels, bars, cinemas and apartments. Next door is the arts precinct with the Queensland Performing Arts Complex, Museum, Art Gallery, State Library and the Gallery of Modern Art. It’s a playground for lovers of art, music and culture – and a cool place to catch a breeze and a drink as the sun goes down.

Increasing demand for CBD accommodation has transformed the city with a number of relatively new high-rises and distinctive bridges now peppering the skyline. Most buildings are oriented to take advantage of beautiful river views, either towards Moreton Bay and its islands, or upstream toward Mt Coot-tha and the west.

The CBD itself is an easy-to-navigate grid, with streets named after English kings running in one direction, and the streets named after female monarchs intersecting them (it’s not called Queensland for nothing). If it is too hot to walk the wide streets and walkways, the city is well-serviced by (air-conditioned) buses and trains. The Botanical Gardens are nestled in a bend of the river, offering a shady spot to relax for the city’s office workers and students from nearby Queensland University of Technology.

Brisbane City has transformed from country cousin to contemporary city with an enviable river lifestyle that is rapidly being discovered by people from across the globe.
